Supported formats and platforms
Mindsera supports two types of imports:
File-based imports:
- Markdown (.md or .zip of .md files)
- CSV (.csv)
Platform migrations:
- Apple Journal
- DayOne
- Rosebud
- Stoic
Markdown import
Accepted file types: A single
.md file, or a .zip containing multiple .md files. How to prepare your files:
- If you have multiple markdown files, put them all in a zip archive.
- To preserve entry dates (required for bulk analysis), each markdown file should start with a date on the first line in this format:
# MM/DD/YYYY
- If no date is included, entries are still imported but saved as drafts without a date.
What gets imported: The full markdown content is converted to formatted HTML. Standard formatting (bold, italic, headings) is preserved.
Example file structure:
plain text# 01/15/2025 Today I reflected on my goals for the new year...
CSV import
Accepted file type: A single
.csv file.Required columns: Your CSV must contain exactly two columns:
date— inMM/DD/YYYYformat
content— the journal entry text
Other columns are ignored.
Example:

Apple Journal

.zip file exported from Apple Journal. How to export from Apple Journal:

.zip archive or a single .json file. How to export from DayOne:

.zipor.jsonfile to Mindsera.
Rosebud

.md (Markdown) file. How to export from Rosebud:

- Upload the
.mdfile to Mindsera.
Stoic
Accepted file type: A single
.txt file. How to export from Stoic:

.txtfile.

Bulk Analysis
Once your entries are imported, Mindsera can analyze them to generate journal insights (mood tracking, themes, patterns, and more). Analysis is available to Premium subscribers.
How it works:
- After a successful import, Premium users are prompted to run bulk analysis.
- The analysis processes your imported entries and typically takes around 10-30 minutes.
- You can close the popup and come back later — you'll be notified when analysis is complete.
Included entries by plan:
Plan | Free analysis entries |
Monthly subscription | Up to 50 entries |
Annual subscription | Up to 500 entries |
Every additional entry beyond your plan's included amount is billed at $0.02 per entry.
Free users can view their imported entries right away but do not have access to bulk analysis.
Duplicate handling
Mindsera automatically detects duplicate entries. If you import entries that already exist (matching the same date and word count), the existing entries are updated rather than duplicated. This means it's safe to re-import if something goes wrong.
